Liverpool scraped past newly-promoted Bournemouth at Anfield on Monday night, with a Christian Benteke goal enough to see off the Cherries.

The goal was arguably a controversial one with Benteke’s Reds teammate Philippe Coutinho in an offside position when the Belgian striker opened his Liverpool account.

The Belgium international has a lot to prove after his £32million move from Aston Villa earlier this summer. His price tag has been questioned, but Benteke has proved in his time in England he has the potential to be highly prolific in the Premier League.

At Villa he managed to score lots of goals despite being playing in a team that was devoid of any creativity for much of his stint in the Midlands.

His current team have more creativity in their team. The likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and James Milner are all players capable of creating goals for the big striker.

The Reds were in need of a focal point for their attack with Daniel Sturridge currently sidelined. Benteke looks like he could be just the man to play that role. He will score goals on Merseyside and scoring on his home debut at Anfield was not a bad start.

Signing Christian Benteke may have been a gamble by Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, but he can be a major hit on Merseyside with his new club.

There is more goals to come from the former-Genk star and Liverpool fans will be looking for Benteke to lead the Reds to a top four finish this season.

Will Christian Benteke be successful at Liverpool?
