Stefan de Vrij LazioLazio have suffered a new blow this season as Stefan de Vrij has been ruled out of action with a knee injury.

Lazio’s bad start to the season doesn’t seem to have an end.

They started the season by losing the Italian Super Cup against Juventus, then they got knocked out from the Champions League by Bayer Leverkusen and recently they suffered a heavy defeat in their last league match against Chievo.

Lazio coach, Stefano Pioli, will now have to make do without one of his key players cause of injury.

Stefan de Vrij was forced to leave the pitch in his match with Netherlands against Turkey due to a problem with his left knee.

De Vrij said: “We had decided together with the staff that I was in condition to play. The knee didn’t give any particular problems, even though after the match against Iceland I was told that I had some liquid. Unfortunately this summer I got injured and without the right preparation I played six matches in a bit more than two weeks. During the match I felt pain in my back and knew therefore I preferred being substituted.”

Tomorrow de Vrij’s injury will be examined in detail with the worry being that the injury may lead to a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
