According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have rejected a bid of around £25million plus £5million in add-ons for Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

It could just be the first salvo from City in what could be a drawn out saga, with the Reds believed to value Sterling at nearer £50million.

It looks like the Merseysider’s may well hold their ground for now and try to get a bigger fee for the young attacker.

Contract

Sterling is currently in the midst of a contract wrangle with Liverpool, after the youngster turned down the offer of a new contract reportedly worth around £100,000 per-week.

The youngster still has two years left on his current deal at Anfield and Liverpool decided to terminate contract talks last month.

It seems he is unhappy on Merseyside and feels that he needs to move on in order to achieve his career ambitions.

In-demand

Sterling has been linked with a number of clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid and of course Manchester City. He is rated as one of the best young players in Europe and that means that he will come with a hefty price tag.

The Manchester City hierarchy have promised ‘high quality’ signings this summer and they are determined to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Mess

Liverpool endured a poor campaign and Sterling refusing to discuss a contract extension will have just added to the Reds woes.

This mess needs sorting out one way or another before the start of the season, or the Merseysider’s will be stuck with a valuable player who is highly unhappy.

Should Liverpool sell Raheem Sterling this summer?
