According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal to sign Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan for £21.5million this summer.
The Germany international has just over 12 months left on his contract with the German giants.
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is expected to once again be given a big transfer kitty this summer, after spending around £150million last summer.
The veteran Dutchman has reported made a central midfielder his priority signing this summer.
At times England striker Wayne Rooney has been pushed into a deeper role in the centre of midfield for the Red Devils this season, but has recently been moved back to his natural position up front.
Gundogan has only recently returned to action after over a year out injured and has found decent form.
The former-Bochum star was highly-rated prior to picking up the career hampering injury and was linked with a move to a number of Europe’s biggest clubs.
He helped Dortmund to rival Bavarian giants Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and was also a part of Jurgen Klopp’s side when they made it to the Champions League final back in 2013.
Despite his injury problems, Gundogan will still be in-demand this summer, with Manchester City and Arsenal expected to rival United for the midfielder’s signature.
The Red Devils are likely to be very busy in the transfer market this summer and it seems the possibility of the German midfielder being part of Louis van Gaal’s squad next season is now a very real one.
