Liverpool have gone from title contenders last season to their current fifth-place this season.

The Reds currently do not look like finishing in the Champions League spots, as they are now seven points behind fourth-place Manchester United.

On Saturday Brendan Rodgers side produced a goalless draw against West Brom and the Liverpool boss admitted that his team are in need of a new striker.

The statistics tell a story, as Liverpool have scored just 47 goals in the Premier League this season.

By contrast Rodgers side registered a club-record 101 Premier League goals, with strike-pairing Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge forming a lethal partnership.

Luis Suarez departing for Barcelona last season was always going to be a major loss to the Merseysider’s. The Uruguayan was the Player of the Year and was the team’s inspiration.

The fact that Sturridge has spent much of the campaign on the sidelines through injury has further lamented the Reds lack of goals.

The likes of Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert have all proved disappointing this summer and all three could leave the Merseyside club this summer.

England starlet Raheem Sterling has had to play out-of-position up front at times, because the striker have struggled to score.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will know that this summer is a big one for his career as Reds boss. The Northern Irishman knows that he has to get it right in the transfer market.

His priority has to be to sign a quality striker this summer and failure to do so could result in another season of disappointment for the Reds.

Can Liverpool sign another striker this summer?
