Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has hinted at a ‘surprise’ signing

According to Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal the Red Devils could make a ‘surprise’ signing in the near future.

The Dutchman is believed to be interested in strengthening his forward department, so the surprise signing is likely to be a forward.

After United’s 1-0 victory over Club America on Friday the Dutchman said: “He’s in the process,”

“It’s not the striker that the media has written about. You have to wait and see. The transfer period is open until August 31. You have to wait.”

The statement has had tongues wagging over who the mystery signing could be. United do look in need of an extra striker after they decided not to make Radamel Falcao’s loan spell a permanent one. Dutch striker Robin van Persie has also moved to Fenerbahce.

United are now down to two strikers in the form of captain Wayne Rooney and rookie James Wilson who had previously been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are expected to challenge for the Premier League title in the new campaign and it looks unlikely two strikers will be enough for that challenge to be successful.

Van Gaal has already been busy adding new players to his United squad signing Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Mateo Darmian.

It seems the Dutchman’s spending of the clubs money is not over yet and that there is an imminent arrival at United. It seems only Van Gaal and his staff knows who though.

Who should Manchester United sign this summer?
