Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho seems to have reverted to type in his pursuit of Everton centre-back John Stones, as he has started the mind games in an attempt to sign the youngster.
The Premier League champions have already had a bid of around £20million rejected for the England international. However they are expected to return with a second bid in the near future.
The Portuguese boss has stated that Everton boss Roberto Martinez should state that the youngster is not available at any price. However everybody knows football is not that simple and every player has a price.
Mourinho told Sky Sports: “We made a bid, the bid is there and Everton have the power to accept it or refuse it.”
Martinez has in fact already said that Stones is not for sale and that the Toffees are no longer a selling club. The Spaniard has also criticised Chelsea for publicly acknowledging their interest in the centre-back.
The Portuguese boss is famous for playing mind games and this is just another time the Chelsea boss has used dark arts in an attempt to get his way. He may be a fantastic boss, but at times he does stuff things that other bosses would maybe not attempt.
Maybe that is why he is regarded as ‘The Special One’, but one thing is for sure Everton will not be pushovers. In a funny way Mourinho may just have shot himself in the foot and the Toffees may just raise the price of the youngster because of his actions.
Should Everton sell John Stones this summer?
