West Ham’s summer-signing Dimitri Payet admits he didn’t see the Hammers getting off to such a good start to the new Premier League season given their opening run of fixtures.
Despite facing the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City in their first six games of the campaign, Slaven Bilic‘s men are currently 3rd in the table.
The Premier League’s surprise package have pulled off some impressive giant-killings away from home that Payet believes the West Ham were good value for.
The Hammers new-boy was signed from Olympique Marseille this summer, and has already scored and assisted five times in the top flight. He’s certainly played his part in the Hammers great form, but didn’t see it coming.
“I might have been a little sceptical if you told me where we’d be, but we’ve shown that our position has not happened by chance. We continue to take points, that’s the important thing. We’ve sprung a few surprises so people are beginning to speak a lot more about us. Naturally, victories bring confidence. I wouldn’t necessarily say we’re winning away with ease, but it’s true that we’ve got a defensive unit that’s tough to budge.”
West Ham won their opening game away to Arsenal, and have since following up the Emirates victory with wins over Liverpool and Manchester City.
The Hammers have won four of their opening six games in the division, and have a Capital One Cup clash against Leicester City to come tonight. Victory over the Foxes would see the Hammers in the fourth round of the competition, capping a brilliant season so far for West Ham.
Can West Ham be this seasons surprise package in the Premier League?
