Chelsea have reportedly agreed terms to sign Colombian striker Radamel Falcao

According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea have agreed terms with Colombian international Radamel Falcao.

However, the Blues have yet to agree terms with his club Monaco over the details of the deal.

Flop

Falcao spent last season on-loan at Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester United, where he flopped like a wet jelly fish. The 29-year-old scored just four goals for United in his loan spell, as he struggled to find his peak form in the English top-flight.

Negotiations

Chelsea will now need to enter into negotiations with Monaco in order to sign Falcao this summer. The Blues are believed to be looking at signing the striker on a season-long loan deal.

However, the big-spending Ligue One club are looking to recoup a hefty loan fee, or to offload the striker on a permanent basis.

It seems certain that a compromise will be found between the two parties, as Chelsea want the player and Monaco no longer wish to pay his reported £265,000 per week wages.

Back-up

At Chelsea, Falcao is only likely to be back-up to another former-Atletico Madrid star in Diego Costa. Costa is undisputed first choice striker at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are in need of striking reinforcements this summer, after veteran Didier Drogba was released.

There are also doubts about the future of France international Loic Remy, as he is believed to be looking for a move elsewhere in aide of finding first team football.

Gamble

Signing Falcao could be a gamble for Chelsea, but who knows maybe the striker can rediscover his best form at Stamford Bridge and be a worthwhile signing next season.

On the evidence of last season though he may just prove to be a very expensive benchwarmer next season.

Would Radamel Falcao be a good signing for Chelsea?
