The 24-year-old has been linked with summer moves to the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months after becoming a mainstay in the best defence in the Premier League.

Progression

Clyne has made giant leaps in the past few months, with his good form for the Saints earning him his first call-up for England and four caps for the Three Lions.

Talking about his career progression at a FootballFightingEbola charity event Clyne had this to say: “I would say [Champions League football] is the next step in my progression. I think I need experience playing European football.

“We’re doing well with Southampton and hopefully we can get there. That would be great. So I’m just concentrating on Southampton. There are a few more games to play, so I’m just concentrating on getting to the fourth spot”.

Unlikely

It seems unlikely that Clyne will achieve his goals with the club from the South Coast, as they are currently five points behind fourth-place Manchester City in the table with just six games remaining.

Contract talks with the Saints have recently stalled. The full-back will have just a year left on his Saints contract this summer.

If the Saints fail to make the Champions League this season, then there will be a queue of top Premier League clubs offering the former-Crystal Palace star the chance to fulfil his ambitions next season.

Will Nathaniel Clyne be at Southampton next season?
