Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Augsburg left-back Baba Rahman, according to his agent Sascha Empacher.

Empacher revealed the deal by telling German newspaper Bild: “It is only the clubs that have to find an agreement. We on our side are agreed.”

The 21-year-old Ghana international only moved to Augsburg last summer from Greuther Furth, but impressed immensely as the minnows finished fifth in the Bundesliga table.

No left-back in the German top-flight made more tackles than the youngster and he is also very effective at going forward as well. He made 31 Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg last season and became a key member their team.

The Blues are looking for a new left-back after Brazilian international full-back Felipe Luis returned to Atletico Madrid after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

That means that Jose Mourinho’s side have just Spaniard Cesar Azpilicueta to cover the position.

Azpilicueta is right-footed, but has done a sterling job at left-back in the past few seasons. It seems that Mourinho is looking for back-up for the Spanish international.

If Rahman lives up to his highly-rated bill though, he could be competing with Azpilicueta for the spot, instead of just acting as back-up.

It seems that his current club are already preparing for the loss of Rahman, as they have completed the signing of another left-back Philipp Max.

Rahman has shown great potential in the Bundesliga and if he continues to develop at his current rate then he could become a top-class full-back in the future. It looks like that may now be in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Would Baba Rahman be a good signing for Chelsea?
