Tottenham look to be close to sealing a deal for Lyon striker Clinton N’Jie

According to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, Premier League Tottenham are close to sealing a deal for the French club’s striker Clinton N’Jie.

Aulas told the media: “We are close to an agreement but there’s no urgency for us,”

“We want to complete our own signings first, but I think Daniel Levy has made an offer that we now regard as consistent.”

Youngster N’Jie is already a Cameroon international and has made 14 appearances for his national team. The 21-year-old scored eight goals in 33 appearances in all competitions for OL and is regarded as a promising youngster.

Spurs have been linked with the move for the last few weeks and it seems the north London club could be closing in on a deal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team were previously linked with a move for QPR striker Charlie Austin, but which Premier League club hasn’t!

For me Austin would be a far shrewder option than the Cameroonian youngster who has no experience in English football, let alone the Premier League.

Austin may be a bit older, but he scored 18 goals last season in a poor QPR team in the top-flight. Surely he would be a shrewder signing than a foreign player who may or may not adapt well to the English top-flight.

N’Jie is maybe one for the future, but Tottenham fans will feel like they need a striker that can aide Harry Kane out this season, not in a few years’ time when he has adapted to the Premier League.

N’Jie may be an instant success and I will have to eat humble pie, but like so many foreign youngsters he could also struggle, only time will tell which one is true of N’Jie

Will Clinton N’Jie be a good signing for Tottenham?
