According to the Daily Star, West Ham are still attempting to complete the signing of Manchester United and Mexico striker Javier Hernandez.
The Star claim that the Hammers could be set to launch a £12million bid for Hernandez, after already seeing a £8.5million offer rejected by the Red Devils.
Hernandez is seen as surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, after spending last season on-loan at Spanish giants Real Madrid. Los Blancos had the option to make the deal permanent, but decided not to take up the option.
That means that Hernandez is now in limbo at United and despite the team’s lack of strikers he looks unlikely to be given a chance to prove himself in their forward line.
The Red Devils are down to just two senior strikers in Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, but Hernandez is still likely to be sold this summer.
West Ham boss Slaven Bilic is believed to be interested in strengthening his attacking options after losing Ecuadorian forward Enner Valencia through an injury that is likely to sideline him for three months.
The Hammers are also reported to be interested in QPR star Charlie Austin, but half of the top-flight have been linked with the 25-year-old this summer. They would certainly have major competition for his signature.
Bilic’s side did not look short of fire power on Sunday, as the Hammers secured a shock 2-0 lead against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, courtesy of goals from Cheick Kouyate and Mauro Zarate.
If they could sign another striker they could be an even bigger threat going forward this season.
