Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor looks set to sign for Aston Villa on loan

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor is set to have a medical at Aston Villa later today after travelling to the Midlands yesterday. The move is likely to be a one-year loan deal.

The mercurial 31-year-old has fallen-out-of-favour with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino and made just three Premier League appearances in 2015. The striker was left out of the Spurs squad for their game against the MLS All-Stars in Denver.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood managed Adebayor at White Hart Lane and the striker enjoyed a good run of form under the boss. Adebayor had fallen-out-of-favour with previous boss Andre Villa-Boas, but under Sherwood he scored 14 times in 24 appearances.

However since Sherwood left Spurs Adebayor has once again struggled for first team football and looked set for a loan move to West Ham in January, but the deal fell through at the last minute.

Villa are in need of a direct replacement for Belgian striker Christian Benteke who recently joined Liverpool in a deal worth around £32.5million.

The move for Adebayor follows Villa’s capture of Spanish defender Jose Angel Crespo from Cordoba for an undisclosed fee. The 28-year-old is much-travelled having played for the likes of Sevilla, Racing Santander, Padova, Bologna and Verona.

Crespo is the Villans seventh signing of a busy summer for the club from the Midlands as they look to avoid another relegation battle in the new campaign.

It remains to be seen if they can avoid another relegation scrap after the summer loss of both Benteke and club captain Fabian Delph.

Can Tim Sherwood revive Emmanuel Adebayor’s career once again?
