West Brom have reportedly agreed a fee to sign hull centre-back James Chester

According to Sky Sports, Premier League West Brom has agreed a fee of around £8million with Championship Hull for centre-back James Chester.

The former-Manchester United trainee is expected to have a medical in the Midlands later today.

Chester has been a key part of the Tigers defence for the last few seasons and was one of their most impressive players in their relegation campaign last season.

The centre-back has made 171 appearances for the club from Humberside since his 2011 move from Manchester United.

He had been linked with a number of clubs earlier in the transfer window, but it seems he will be plying his trade at the Hawthorns in the new campaign.

Chester has just less than 12 months to run on his existing contract and Tigers boss Steve Bruce is likely to use the money to strengthen his squad with a promotion bid in mind.

Meanwhile West Brom have had to deny that they have had any bids for highly-rated striker Saido Berahino. The 21-year-old scored 14 times in the Premier League last season and has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham.

The reports that Spurs have already had a bid turned down have been rubbished by the Baggies hierarchy, with a club Tweet reading: “Ok, this is getting silly now. So let us make it clear. There has been NO bid for Saido. That’s it. Carry on everyone.”

Berahino has in the past expressed his desire to play at the highest level he possibly could and a summer move cannot be ruled out.

Is James Chester worth £8million?
