Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has left ‘keeper David de Gea out in the cold

Manchester United’s highly-rated Spanish ‘keeper David de Gea was left out of the Red Devils starting line-up for Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Argentinian international Sergio Romero was selected ahead of the Spaniard.

The former-Sampdoria ‘keeper produced a solid display and kept a clean sheet on competitive his debut, despite not having played any football during pre-season.

United boss Louis van Gaal claimed that De Gea had lacked focus in training and that is why he was not selected for the Spurs game. However it is being reported that the player himself believed he was ready to play against Spurs.

The whole situation is not good for United boss Van, who also this summer exiled De Gea’s compatriot Victor Valdes from the United squad. The Dutchman now seems to have two international goalkeepers who are not going to be used this season.

That leaves Van Gaal having to use Romero as his number one until he sees fit to bring De Gea back into the fold, if indeed he has any future at Old Trafford. That now looks unlikely.

The 24-year-old has won the clubs Player of the Year award for the last two seasons, but has less than a year left to run on his contract. Real Madrid have been heavily linked with a move for the talented ‘keeper, but it seems that United do not want to do business with the Spanish giants.

David de Gea could now face a season on the sidelines at United, unless Van Gaal changes his mind and selects the Spaniard. Either way Real Madrid are likely to snap-up the talented ‘keeper for nothing next summer.

Should Manchester United sell David De Gea?
