Former-QPR midfielder Joey Barton is set to join the Hoops London rivals West Ham on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old was released when his contract with Chris Ramsey’s side expired earlier this summer following the clubs relegation to the Championship.
The experienced central midfielder is now set to have a medical with the Hammers later today ahead of completing a free move to the Boleyn Ground.
Barton is considered talented, but controversial by most in the football community. The midfielder is almost as famous for his social network activity as he is for his football ability.
On the pitch he has also been accused of being rash and bends the rules at times. To his credit his drive and determination does make up for his often rash behaviour.
Barton has enjoyed a long career in the Premier League, playing for the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle prior to his spell at QPR. He helped the Hoops back into the top-flight in 2014.
The midfielder had a decent season for the Hoops and made 28 Premier League appearances for the R’s, despite his club finishing bottom of the table. No doubt he will add know-how to the Hammers midfield.
The deal does not seem to have gone down very well with Hammers fans. His often controversial behaviour and undoubted big wages have seen fans criticise any prospective deal. It remains to be seen if Barton can change opinion at his new club.
