Everton are reportedly interested in signing Inter centre-back Andrea Ranocchia

According to Sky Sports, Premier League Everton are considering a move for Inter and Italy centre-back Andrea Ranocchia.

The Nerazzurri are believed to be open to offers for the experienced centre-back this summer.

Everton currently have just two senior centre-backs on their books in England internationals Phil Jagielka and John Stones, having lost veteran French centre-back Sylvain Distin and Paraguayan international Antolin Alcaraz earlier this summer when their contracts expired.

As we reported earlier the Toffees are believed to be interested in signing 24-year-old Argentinian centre-back Ramiro Funes Mori from River Plate, in a deal worth around £5.5million.

However, it appears that the Merseysider’s may have an alternative in Ranocchia, who has made over hundred appearances for the Milan club and has also made 20 appearances for his national team.

Ranocchia only signed a new four-year deal with the Nerazzurri, but it seems he could be allowed to leave if the right offer came in.

Sky claims that the Toffees will only make a move for the Italian if John Stones moves on to Chelsea, who are still stalking the England international after three failed bids. The Premier League champions are still reportedly chasing Stones’ signature.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez stated a few weeks ago that he was looking to bring in three players before the transfer window shuts on September 1st.

A centre-back seems to be the Spaniard’s priority, with the Toffees now frighteningly short of cover in the centre of defence.

Should Everton pursue an interest in Ranocchia?
