Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas is set for a move to Portuguese outfit Porto

Spanish goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas is set to join Portuguese side Porto from Real Madrid, after the two clubs agreed a fee and the player struck an agreement over personal terms.

The move was announced in a press conference on Saturday and the veteran ‘keeper did not attempt to he hide his emotions as tears flowed.

Casillas has been with Los Blancos since he was just nine years old and progressed through the clubs youth ranks. He has enjoyed a trophy-laden career at Real, having won La Liga on five occasions and the Champions League three times, amongst other trophies.

The 34-year-old has made over 700 appearances for the club, but his relationship with the fans and the Real Madrid hierarchy has not exactly been a perfect one in recent years. He has endured being dropped from the first team and even been booed by his own fans.

However, he has to be regarded as a Real Madrid legend, even if his mum did her best to ruin that status by criticising Real Madrid, new club Porto and even heaping praise on bitter-rivals Barcelona.

Casillas’ move could launch a chain reaction with Los Blancos now likely to step-up their bid for Manchester United ‘keeper David de Gea.

The Spanish international is out of contract next summer and Real were widely expected to complete a deal earlier in the summer for highly-rated ‘keeper.

However, they have not yet been able to agree a fee with the Red Devils, but the departure of Casillas will mean that Los Blancos are now in need of a top ‘keeper and De Gea seems like he fits the bill.

Is moving to Porto a good move for Casillas?
