Premier League Manchester United have agreed a fee with Bayern Munich for their German international midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

The fee has yet to be revealed, but the experienced star is expected in Manchester in the next few days after the two clubs agreed a fee.

The 30-year-old central midfielder has played under United boss Louis van Gaal previously as the pair worked together at Bayern, where the Bavarians claimed a domestic double of Bundesliga title and cup.

Schweinsteiger has just a year left on his contract with Munich, so United may just be able to sign the experienced star in a cut-price deal this summer.

The German international has enjoyed a trophy-laden career in club football having won seven Bundesliga titles, as well as seven other domestic trophies. However the pinnacle of his career was last year’s World Cup win with his national side.

The midfielder is an incredibly intelligent player and has the ability to control games from the centre of the park. No doubt he will be a shrewd addition to Van Gaal’s squad.

Another player expected to arrive at United in the near future is Italian full-back Matteo Darmian. The Italy international is due to have a medical in England ahead of a £13million move to Old Trafford.

The full-backs arrival could raise doubts over the future of Brazilian international Rafael at the club.

The 25-year-old has endured an injury-hit few seasons with the Red Devils and versatile Ecuadorian international Antonio Valencia spent much of last season in the right-back position.

Is Bastian Schweinsteiger a marquee signing?
