Leicester City have announced the signing of Japanese forward Shinji Okazaki from Bundesliga side Mainz, subject to a work permit being granted.

The 29-year-old has joined the Foxes for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £7million and signed a four-year deal with Nigel Pearson’s men.

Goals

Okazaki is his country’s third highest scorer notching 43 goals in his 93 appearances for the Asian nation. The striker is also the most prolific Japanese player in the history of the German top-flight, having found the net 37 times in 128 appearances in the Bundesliga in spells at Stuttgart and Mainz.

Last season he found the 14 times for Mainz in the all competitions, having arrived from Stuttgart in 2013.

Experience

Okazaki has a wealth of experience at both at club and international level. He moved to German football in 2011 to sign for Stuttgart and despite struggling to find his best form, his form improved at Mainz last season.

Strengthened

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson has started to strengthen his squad in a bid to avoid the same relegation dogfight as last season.

The Foxes have already brought in centre-back Robert Huth on a permanent basis, while his compatriot full-back Christian Fuchs has arrived as a free agent from Schalke.

No doubt Pearson will continue to strengthen his squad in a bid to improve a squad that experienced a fantastic finish to their Premier League campaign last season. Okazaki could be a very useful addition to the Foxes forward line.

Will Shinji Okazaki be a good signing for Leicester?
