Manchester United have agreed a £25million fee with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven for promising winger Memphis Depay, subject to the player passing a medical this summer.
The 21-year-old Holland international has reportedly agreed a four-year deal with the Red Devils with the option of an extra year.
United took to Twitter to confirm the deal by tweeting: “MUFC has reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven and Memphis Depay for the player’s transfer, subject to a medical.
“Pending the successful completion of the medical, the deal will go through once the transfer window opens in June. Manchester United @ManUtd.”
The likes of Liverpool and big spending French club PSG had previously been mooted as potential destinations for the highly-rated star. However, it is understood Depay agreed the move because of the presence of former international boss Louis van Gaal at United.
Depay played a big part in Holland’s World Cup campaign under Van Gaal and the veteran Dutch boss is a big fan of the youngster.
The youngster has scored 21 goals in his 28 appearances this season in the Eredivisie and also three goals in six Europa League appearances as well.
Depay’s summer arrival could see highly-rated Belgian winger Adnan Januzaj leave the club on a temporarily basis. The 20-year-old was regarded as one of the most promising young players in European football prior to the arrival of Van Gaal.
However, the youngster has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the starting line-up. Everton boss Roberto Martinez is a known admirer of the youngster and could make a loan move for him this summer.
