Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney will miss United’s Champions League clash with PSV on Tuesday.

Rooney picked-up a hamstring injury in training while on international duty with England.

The forward missed United’s 3-1 victory over arch-rivals Liverpool on Saturday and is being left out of the trip to Holland as a precaution.

The injury does not seem serious, as reports suggest that the former-Everton star could be available for next weekend’s trip to PSV.

Talking after the Liverpool game United boss Louis van Gaal said: “I think he is very important for us and I don’t want to take any risks,”

The Red Devils fielded midfielder Marouane Fellaini in the lone striker role against Liverpool and could continue in the role against Dutch champions.

Deadline day signing Anthony Martial made his debut off the bench against Liverpool and scored United’s third goal against the Reds.

The youngster could now be handed his full debut in the clash in the central role. Young forward James Wilson is included in the squad, but is unlikely to start the game, as he has yet to make his first appearance of the campaign.

Will Manchester United record a victory at PSV without their captain?
