According to Sky Sports, West Ham have made a £14million bid for Marseille and France midfielder Dimitri Payet and the player is expected in London for a medical.

The player himself has been quoted as stating that he is happy to remain in France with his current club, whether this bid will change that only time will tell.

The French international seems to be the Irons prime transfer target this summer as boss Slaven Bilic looks to strengthen his squad for next season.

Payet enjoyed a successful campaign last season, scoring seven times and providing 17 assists for his teammates. His good form has made the 28-year-old a regular in the France squad and he scored in Les Bleus recent 3-4 home friendly defeat to Belgium.

West Ham are not the only English side to be linked with the versatile Frenchman though.

Everton had also been linked with the attacking midfielder, but it seems they have turned their attention to signing former-loanee Gerard Deulofeu on a permanent basis, a deal which seems to be dragging out.

Payet can play on either flank or as an attacking midfielder and seems to finally be fulfilling his potential at the age of 28.

Payet is not the only player being linked with a move to the Hammers, as the club from the east end of the capital are favourites to sign QPR’s in-demand striker Charlie Austin this summer. The former-Poole striker is expected to leave the Hoops following their relegation last season.

The Hammers have already added Spanish midfielder Pedro Obiang to their squad. He will be joined at the Boleyn Ground next season by former-Manchester City youngster Martin Samuelsen, who joined the London club on a free transfer.

Will West Ham sign Dimitri Payet this summer?
